Hi,
know what you do

  Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE)?

Ece
Utilizing the scientific knowledge relating to the characteristics of electrons, their behavior and their effects for various systems, devices or equipments is ‘Electronics and Communication Engineering’. This is a vast discipline.  Many sub sectors like Power, Instrumentation Engineering, Tele communications and Semi conductor circuit design are part of it.

B.tech COURSE FORMAT:
Well if we start discussing about the importance of ECE it goes on like an Everest. The first and foremost thing is that it is because the synchronization of Electronics on par with Communication field, no other group like EIE or EEE or any other group has this synchronization. Usually in the first year of your B.Tech you will be learning things that you have already learn at your +2 stage like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Drawing, English etc. The actual core subjects come from second year, usually you will be first introduced with subjects related to Electronics field like circuit designing and analyzing etc. Later on subjects related to Communication field will be introduced. The word Communication means transfer of information from the source to the destination over a communication channel. Subjects related to communication field are Analog Communication, Digital Communication, Satellite Communication, Wireless Communication & Networking, and Cellular Mobile Communication etc. These subjects play a vital role in deciding the carrier of the subjects. The above represented scenario is with respect to JNTU-H and almost all the universities follow more or less the same scenario. Since the goods in the field of Communication are more related to Electronics the group Electronics and Communication Engineering has higher demand than any other department.

Job Prospects in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE):

They are wide range of job opportunities for ECE students throughout the world. In fact in many public sector jobs in India, the students from ECE are highly recruited than any other group. The other advantage of this group is that students can easily drift from hardware field to software field if the familiar with some computer languages but the converse is not true. In the field of communication side, mainly in companies like BSNL, Nokia, and Motorola etc mainly students from ECE background are hired. Finally the famous ISRO recruits students only from ECE and Mechanical.

So, I request the students to be wise in choosing their stream. One need to look into considerations about the market after four years and not based on the present market as you will be finishing graduation after four years. ECE has nothing like recession, like software side as any company requires the students for a long run process. So in my opinion it is best to choose ECE as your stream at B.Tech in order to have bright future both with respect to Job and with respect to Masters.
Electronic and communication Engineering ….. Core subjects, Higher [i]education, Job opportunities, Top Recruiters, Salaries, Required skills, Previous year 2009 counseling, total seats and useful websites

Core subjects:   Electromagnets, Electronics, Electrical circuits and machines, Signals and systems, Digital signal processing, Microprocessors and embedded systems, Communication systems and VLSI are the core subjects in this course.

Higher education: There are many higher education opportunities in Electronics.  Students who finish BE/B.Tech can go for M.Tech/MS in subjects like Fiber and Light Waves, Micro Electronics and VLSI design, RF& microwaves, Tele communication systems and Visual Information and Embedded systems.

Job opportunities
Electronic Engineers can get jobs in Central and State government sectors and their subsidiary corporations and organizations like All India Radio, Indian Telephone Industries, MTNL, National physical laboratories, Civil Aviation Department, Post and Telegraph department, Co-ordination department, Bharat Electronics Limited and also its development centers.   Opportunities are open for Electronic Engineers in private sectors in Electronic consumer goods, manufacturing, sales and services and Entertainment and Transmission industry, Research centers and defence.   And the services of electronic engineers are required in Healthcare Equipment Manufacturing industries, Mobile communication, Internet Technologies, Power electronics, steel, Petroleum and chemical industries.  Apart from these, Electronic Engineers can take up the teaching profession in Engineering colleges.  Job opportunities are plenty for skilled electronic engineers who are post graduate.

Top Recruiters
Public sector undertakings like BEL, DRMC and Multinational companies like Siemens, Texas Instruments, Intel, Philips Electronics, Motorola, Samsung, Flextronics, DRDO and ISRO, IT companies like Infosys, Wipro, TCS, HCL technologies, Tech Mahindra and Big industrial sectors like Tata Group, ITC and Reliance group, recruit electronic engineers in large numbers.

Salaries
Income of Electronic engineers depends on the market demand and the organization.  Generally a trainee engineer gets a salary of Rs.20,000 – 30,000, middle level technical professional gets Rs.70,000-80,000, and Senior Manager gets Rs.1.5 lakh salary.

Required skills
Good analyzing capacity, skills to solve the problems and creative talent are the required skills of an electronic engineer.  He should be aware of the changes in technology and development in that field.

Previous year 2009 counseling and total seats
Total seats are 62570.  Last year, in open category ECE seat was allotted up to 400 ranks in Andhra University region, up to 350 ranks in Osmania university region and up to 600 ranks in Sri Venkateswara University region.  In the new government colleges  ECE seat was allotted up to 4000 ranks.  In top private engineering colleges students who secured ranks up to 7,500 could get a seat in ECE branch (only in open competition category).
